HKL - Overseas-Based Staff Positions Regional Specialists (Disability Inclusive Development)

Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Suva, Fiji

AusAID, the Australian Government agency responsible for the management of Australia’s international development program is seeking two Regional Specialists (Disability Inclusive Development) to be based in its offices in Phnom Penh and Suva.

Australia’s Development for All strategy launched in November 2008 seeks to ensure that people with disability are genuinely included in Australia’s aid program and benefit equally from it. Specialists will play a critical role in supporting implementation of the strategy, helping to build AusAID’s awareness, understanding and capacity in disability-inclusive practice.

You must have experience and a strong understanding of disability inclusive development and of the workings and methods of bilateral donors. You will have skills and experience in working with Disabled Peoples’ Organisations and other key stakeholders promoting the rights of people with disability in national development. You will have knowledge of Australia’s aid program including Australia’s Development for All strategy. Knowledge and experience with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) and in particular Article 32 on development assistance will be highly regarded. You will also have strong interpersonal, communication and capacity building skills.

Applicants are invited to specify their preferred placement option as part of their application. Each position will be offered initially on an 18-month contract with the potential for extension. The Cambodia position may be relocated at a later date to other AusAID offices in Asia such as the Bangkok regional hub.

Referees will be contacted if you are shortlisted for one of the positions. The successful applicant may be required to undergo a security assessment.

English language skills are essential. Proficiency in language of host country will also be highly regarded. People with disability and women are strongly encouraged to apply.

A salary between AUD103,988 and AUD117,105 plus allowances is being offered.
